Mckevin Ayaba is a Serial Social Entrepreneur. He is very passionate about entrepreneurship especially the development of Startup Ecosystem in Africa. He enjoys assisting and supporting Startups founders/owners to understand, grow and advance their businesses.
He was one of the winners of the Festival of Ideas competition in 2015 after competing with 50 Candidates. Festival of Ideas is an annual competition organized by Gordon Institute of Business Science, department of Social Entrepreneurship looking for the best candidate with the best idea that impact the community.
He is the Africa Partner of Global Startup Awards and the Founder & CEO of Southern Africa Startup Awards. The Global Startup Awards provides an annual spotlight focus to web/tech startups in regions across the globe. Each individual regional award places a heavy focus on unearthing and rewards the very best from within their respective ecosystems & connecting each of the countries to create a stronger united brand.The awards stand to represent the entire startup and tech community – from the startups themselves, through to the people behind them, & the organisations that work alongside these visionaries to make the great things possible.
He is also the Founder of MAD Productions, an event and artist management structure based in Johannesburg with a mission to create events that fosters and promotes cultural diversity; through connecting creative minds, music, the arts, educational & entrepreneurship programs.
He is a staunch advocate for education & is personally committed to empowering the youth, and helping them reach their full potential. Over the years, he has dedicated his time to mentoring & supporting the underprivileged. The House of Hope orphanage that he co-founded was born out of his dedication to social justice.
Mckevin is an MCSE, CISSP & an IT Consultant by profession with a graduate degree in entrepreneurship coupled with multiple certifications in Information Technology.
Dave Romero, B.Compt, Professional Accountant (SA)
Dave qualified as a Professional Accountant (SA) in 1987. He Joined a Corporate Finance Company after qualifying where he got the first taste of Venture Capital. Dave became the Financial Director and later, the Managing Director of Equivest, a Venture Capital Group.
During 1991, Dave established his own Venture Capital Company which was listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange on the 25th of November 1997. REF Finance and Investment Corporation Ltd focussed on the ICT industry.
Highlights of this company include being ranked 21st in a Business Times Top 100 Companies survey during 1998, ranked the 40th fastest growing company in South Africa, with investors receiving a 1,800% return over a five year period.
During 2005, Dave bought into Isibane Holdings (Pty) Ltd, formed a Private Equity company called Isibane Capital Ltd and was elected as the Joint CEO. 2009 saw the merger of the company with Pulse Private Equity.
In 2012 Dave founded the Caban Group of Companies to help entrepreneurs succeed by providing a comprehensive service offering to small businesses as risk in return for equity. The success of this model lead to the founding of Caban Capital, the Group Holding company, in the UK through which the business model is being applied internationally. In 2018, he, together with Ben Botes, listed Seedslife Caban Impact Fund an African Impact Fund onto the Gibraltar Stock Exchange.
Dave’s passion for developing entrepreneurs often takes him out of the boardroom, for which he serves on 62 boards, and into the local communities where he can be found offering advice as well as creating innovative solutions to the funding requirements of public benefit organisations. He has over the course of his over 30 years career helped hundreds of companies to get started.
